The REC Center serves the community with recreational and educational classes in fitness, arts, and life skills. Community clubs and other events provide means for people to learn, enjoy, create, and gather together.
How We Are Different
The REC Center offers “Pay When You Come” recreational classes with no extra fees or commitments, making affordable, and close to home options for those in and around Mercer County.
Where and When
The REC Center, originally located exclusively in Viola Illinois, moved out of its location in June of 2024 and is currently utilizing nearby facilities to host classes and clubs. “With locations in Orion, Alexis, and Viola we are reaching our audiences while working towards a permanent home in Viola.” Robyn Messerly Owner/Director
During the school year we hold weekly classes as well as monthly classes. In the summertime we host an annual Summer Arts Camp for kids to explore a variety of arts classes such as writing, drawing, acting, creating, improv, and more. Our camps are expanding as we grow, with three different summer camps options for 2025.

We strive to keep classes and events affordable. Our Pay When You Come structure allows you the freedom to try something new, or take a class in between other commitments. We also have a monthly discounted rate for students who attend regularly. There is a pay ahead option as well with our Punch Card.*

The REC Center accepts Cash and Venmo for payments. We do not charge a registration fee or require that you purchase any attire or equipment to attend our classes, unless specifically noted.
*REC Punch Cards include ten 30 minute punches to use on any class. They can be used for more than one person and more than one class. This is a great option for people who need flexibility or like to pay ahead. The Punch Card is $75.00 for 5 hours worth of classes.
